The UK government hired some company to run ferries for cargo between the UK and continental Europe. But, the company doesn't seem that good.

- Has no experience at running a ferry service

- Doesn't own a single ship

- The company apparently has less than 100 to use for buying and running things (I think I'm getting this right)

Well. Sounds like a good deal.

Some questions for you. Nothing too hard.

1. What are considered the "coolest" cities, for millennials? You know, cities with active night lives, plenty of fun stuff to do, things like restaurants, culture centres, and bars?

2. Do Germans generally prefer to own physical stuff, or do they prefer to use things like Netflix and Spotify?

3. What are the big sports in Germany?

1. The obvious ones are Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt. Heard good things about Dortmund and Wrzburg. Hamburg's been voted as the city with the best nightlife in the world in some poll by a hostel chain recently and is awesome.

2. Netflix and especially Spotify are really popular here in Germany. I prefer physical for music but I'd say most people stream stuff nowadays.

3. Soccer is certainly the biggest one. After a big dropoff I'd say basketball and handball, Also fitness, if your asking about sports people do.

Will you be visiting Germany?

Thanks. Although for the first question, the answer wasn't obvious to me. :(

To answer your question directly, no I won't. Not any time soon, anyway. To answer it indirectly, I've been trying to find out lots about Germany recently for a book I want to write. I've been quizzing the other people I called to this topic about it.

You know, I just rewatched Downfall, and Hitler ranting sometimes made me laugh. Is that bad?

But, sometimes research isn't even (that) neccesary. If it's something like America, a lot of people from other countries already know a lot about it. Plus, Western countries are often similar to each other.

This is how you get something like a person in Kansas taking an hour to drive to NYC. >_>

That made me laugh. If actually know the geography of certain countries very well. I have a strange and sick fascination with it. All that time on Google, Wikipedia and Google Earth was interesting.

I think a writer shouldn't just stick to one place and time period, anyway. That's what a vulgar little hack does. Look at Stephen King, and all those stories set in Maine. He seems terrified of writing something other than America in general, except in his more science fictiony or fantastical stuff. I would be surprised if he could even find certain major countries, like Japan or Spain on a map.

It's funny, everybody so far has voted to say that it's okay to write stuff you haven't experienced yourself, but I've had several people tell me the opposite on CE. Was it just a vocal minority? Does this mean I'm allowed to write more stuff, than just late 20th and early 21st century stuff, set in Britain, specifically the West Country?

Of course, CE does like to tell people what they can't do / what they're wrong about.

CE has said to me, on multiple occasions, that you can't write a fiction book about something, unless you live in the relevant country, or lived through the appropriate time period, or both. For example, based on what people on CE have said, I'm not qualified to write a book set mostly or entirely in America, because I've never been to America, despite having spent most of my life watching American TV, American films, listening to American music, and reading American books...to say nothing of speaking to American online for a number of years. Another example would be if I wanted to write about the Guy Fawkes trying to blow up Parliament. I'm British, but since I wasn't alive 400 years ago, and didn't live through that event, and didn't live through the culture of the time and place, I'm not able to write a book on the subject.

Do you agree or disagree with what people have said, that I've just laid out? If so, why?

This is the impression I get. Personally, I don't think it's got many games that seem that good, between the 1st and 3rd party titles. Not quite sure what's happening, though. The 360 is one of my favourite consoles of all time. It was like a deluge of games, and many of them were great.

If feels like the XBone is what you buy if a. you're a casual gamer, b. like certain popular franchises, and c. want to play online a lot. Which I'm fine with, but I tick maybe 1 of those 3 boxes (the popular franchises part, and not that much).

The Star Wars films weren't really designed to be instruments of social change, or to advance any agenda. They're just mindless entertainment for people who like that kind of thing. I mean...I can't really think of any "issues" addressed in the 8 main Star Wars films. Maybe the nature of democracy and how important it is in the prequel trilogy, but not very indepth, and that's pretty much it.
